Not proactive enough with Proactiv? Co-founder responds to Justin Bieber mugshot acne

Way back when, Justin Bieber used to advertise for Proactiv (video embedded). On Monday, a spokesperson for the company -- they make acne treatment products -- told TMZ that his mug shot was a plea for Proactiv help.

For those not in the know, Proactiv was created by Drs. Katie Rodan and Kathy Fields in 1995, and is a three-part acne treatment kit that is sold on a subscription basis. Fields said that from the mugshot that has been widely distributed (shown) it is clear that Bieber has had a break out -- and she didn't mean out of jail. According to the expert, Bieber's break out is likely due to stress.

Agreeing somewhat with Fields' non-office diagnosis of Bieber's breakout, Dr. Joshua Zeichner, director of cosmetics and clinical research in the dermatology department at Mount Sinai Hospital said
There are many environmental factors that can lead to breakouts, and those include emotional stress. Some of the hormones that increase during stressful periods can actually stimulate our oil glands to go into overdrive. And more oil means more food for the acne-causing bacteria on our skin.
Never a company to miss out on some free public relations, they are going to send him some Proactiv+ and X-Out to restore his face -- if not his public image -- to its earlier bloom. Fields wasn't too encouraging when TMZ asked if Bieber could get his Proactiv spokesperson gig back again.

Fields said the company looks for people who are in "the right state to help others and right now Justin needs to get himself healthy."
