This is no game: The final trailer for 'Ender's Game'

On Tuesday, Summit Entertainment revealed the final trailer for Ender's Game, which arrives in theaters and IMAX on Nov. 1. You can watch it, below.

Based on Orson Scott Card's Hugo and Nebula Award winning novel by the same name, the film follows a series of young recruits being trained by Colonel Hyrum Graff (Harrison Ford) to become the next Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley). Rackham is a half-Maori International Fleet commander who saved Earth from the last attack by the Formic race.

As in the novel, Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield) must first earn his place in Command School by participating in Battle School. Graff sees that Ender is the one most likely to become the new Rackham and save the human race. He tells him -- obviously without putting pressure on the young lad -- “If you succeed, you’ll be remembered as a hero.”

In addition to Butterfield, Ford, and Kingsley, the film also stars Hailee Steinfeld, Viola Davis, and Abigail Breslin. The film is directd by Gavin Hood.

The novel has a gotcha at the end, and a classic one to boot. We won't give it away, but suffice it to say that even if you know the ending, the novel is still a great work of sci-fi.

This trailer shows a lot of what you’d expect: lots of epic-looking special effects. The official synopsis of the film, per Summit:
In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the Formics) have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham, all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin, a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.

Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military's next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he's trained by Mazer Rackham, himself, to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.
The film adaptation is planned for release on Nov. 1, 2013. Card is co-producing the film.
