DC Comics releases 'Necessary Evil' trailer ahead of SDCC 2013

Ahead of the San Diego Comic-Con 2013, on Wednesday DC Comics unveiled a trailer (embedded) for its upcoming documentary about the super-villains of its universe, dubbed "Necessary Evil."

The full-length documentary stars the top villains of the DC Universe, including Bane, Darkseid, Deathstroke, the Joker, and Lex Luthor. As you can see from the list, being a top villain doesn't necessarily mean top super-powers, or super-powers at all, as neither Lex Luthor nor the Joker has any. That being said, these are among the most menacing of DC's criminals.

Christopher Lee narrates the documentary, which seems fitting based on his numerous turns as a villain in film. The film will explore DC's villains in-depth, including interviews with creators, writers, and still more.

The documentary comes from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (WBHE) and DC Entertainment (DCE) and will ship on Oct. 25, 2013. Ahead of that debut, on Sept. 10, DC will release "Necessary Evil" the trade paperback, which collects tales featuring these bad guys.

The TPB will include:

Action Comics Annual #10, Batman #244, 614, Batman Villains Secret Files and Origins 2005 #1, Black Adam 6, Countdown #2, 6-9, 10-11, 14-15, 16, 19, 27, 29, 33-34, 36-37, Countdown to Infinite Crisis #1, Green Lantern Corps #14, Solo #1, Superman: Lex 2000, and Wonder Woman #214.
