"Pacific Rim" is a Guillermo del Toro-directed science fiction film. The first trailer was released in mid-December. That trailer was slightly short of 2 and a half minutes in length, while the new trailer clocks in at a slightly shorter 1:47.
Wikipedia's synopsis for the film is:
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, start rising from the sea, a war begins that takes millions of lives and consumes humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon is devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers prove nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. The new trailer starts by showing us the crack in the ocean bottom that is apparently how the Kaiju reach Earth. According to del Toro, the Kaiju come from another dimension, and viewers will get to see what is on the other side of the portal. Could that be part of the sequel, which del Toro is apparently already scripting with Travis Beacham?
On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes - a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) - who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
From there, we move to the attack on the Golden Gate Bridge, which is the first appearance of the Kaiju. And then, some new footage, involving the operators of the Jaegers, and the Jaegers themselves.
We then again see two Jaegers dropped into the ocean, and Idris Elba's speech, channeling "Independence Day." "Today we are cancelling the apocalypse."
Of course, that's immediately followed by a Jaeger being thrown, apparently by a Kaiju.
The Warner Bros/Legendary picture stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Ron Perlman. It opens on July 12.
