Ronaiah Tuiasosopo will appear on the syndicated daytime self-titled television show of Dr. Phil McGraw. Sources said that Dr. Phil and Tuiasosopo had a several hour sit-down on Thursday in Los Angeles.
The pair watched Manti Teo's entire interview with Katie Couric, then discussed it together. The sources added that the interview is "emotional and deep," although that is somewhat vague.
Dr. Phil's interview with Tuiasosopo is expected to air next week, although the exact schedule has not been announced at the time of this writing.
Ronaiah Tuiasosopo has yet to address the public or the press about his alleged involvement in the Manti Te'o dead girlfriend hoax, despite the fact that Te'o has already said Tuiasosopo privately confessed to him that he concocted the entire thing.
Te'o has already discussed -- on camera -- Tuiasosopo's Twitter direct message to him, in which he apologized about the matter. He even read the entire message to Couric, which said, "I completely accept the consequences to the pain I've caused and it's important that you know the entire truth before anyone else."
The Deadspin report outing Lennay Kekua as non-existent exploded onto the Internet slightly more than one week ago, last Wednesday. Te’o and Kekua had been "dating" since 2011, but Kekua supposedly passed away on Sept. 12 after a battle with leukemia. Te’o, having already suffered through the death of his grandmother just hours previously, still managed to have his best game of the season -- just days later -- against Michigan State.
His performance raised the story to legendary heights, with media outlets relating the story of Kekua and Te'o relationship. However, until Deadspin revealed the non-existence of Kekua, he never revealed his knowledge of the scam, and even had interviews where he mentioned her after Dec. 6.
After the scam was revealed, Kekua did acknowledge that their relationship was online and on the phone and that he had never actually met Kekua in person, despite reports to the contrary.
