This coming week, Colbert will feature cast in crew of the film "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," Sir Ian McKellan, Martin Freeman, Peter Jackson and Andy Serkis. Indeed, that's one a day for those who are not counting challenged, as Colbert does four shows weekly from Monday through Thursday.
Reportedly, Colbert is such a Tolkien geek that he easily defeated “Lord of the Rings” screenwriter Phillipa Boyens in a head-to-head trivia competition. Colbert boasted of his accomplishment on a recent appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
If there is one difficulty upcoming in "Hobbit Week," it will be how Colbert's faux-conservative character will remain just that: in character. Based on past performances on his show, Colbert is well-rehearsed and won't let his Tolkien love gush too much.
After all, in a recent segment on his show, Colbert discussed the "Republican Ring of Power," so we're sure he'll manage to slip in politics somehow. Watch the segment, embedded.
