Miss Universe Australia Contestant Too Skinny?

You decide. While she didn't win, Stephanie Naumoska, 19, competed in the Miss Universe Australia contest in Sydney (the winner goes to the Miss Universe finals), and drew attention not for her beauty, but for being, well, gaunt.

A criticism oft-leveled at models is being overly thin. Many of these beauty pageant contestants are models, after all.

Naumoska is 5'11" yet only weighs 108 pounds. Pageant director Deborah Miller said she has Macedonian heritage, accounting for her extreme thinness. Right.

She apparently Body Mass Index (BMI) of 15.1. Her BMI should be between 18.5 and 24.9 to fall into the 'average' category. By World Health Organisation (WHO) standards, she is malnourished.

At the same time, Naumoska denied reports she is either anorexic or bulemic, saying:

"I think it is very unfair that I have been criticised that I'm too skinny. I have never been anorexic or bulimic I don't throw up my meals after I eat them I don't starve myself, none of that. I eat six to eight healthy meals a day."
I would then ask: where the heck does it go?

Stephanie Naumoska was defeated in the final by 20-year-old television presenter and model Rachael Finch. Thankfully.

Yes, she's skinny. I do see some photoshopping on this pic though.

If this gal eats as much as she claims, then she needs to see a physician, because she is not absorbing/utilizing properly the nutrients (especially calories) in her food!

Hyperthyroidism could do it. She would literally starve very quickly if she didn't eat often.

Please. I am 42 now but I was that skinny, if not skinnier, up until I had my second child at 29. I am 5'11" and weighed between 110 and 117 my whole life. I ate everything I wanted whenever I wanted and never gained a pound. Everyone thought they had the right to comment on my weight and it hurt my feelings terribly. The eating disorders weren't really out in the public then, but I'm sure I would have been accused of having one. It's not fair and people should mind their own business. I believe her, because I WAS her.

let's face it, it's genetic.

Aw, the poor thing. I'm sure she feels terrible for the thousands of girls who were turned down because they were OVERweight.

She's too skinny. She looks like crap. Let's face it. If they had someone up there that was too fat no one would be saying "mind your own business", that's for sure!

Well I think she is skinny, beautiful but skinny. But skinny doesn't mean ill. I'm 5'7" and have never weighed in over 110. I can eat endlessly - including foods loaded with fat - can't even get my cholesterol level to go up. I'm 50 and male - and you think she is skinny...

This pic is totally photoshopped.

If we're going to start calling out the gazelles we need to name the elephants. Stop sugar coating. This works both ways.

She is not being honest about eating 8 healthy meals a day. She is extremely underweight. I believe she may be counting a piece of celery as a meal. She does not look healthy to me. Perhaps her body is not metabolizing her food, but there is a problem here and she is not being honest about it.

First I believe her that Stephanie is not 108 lbs but about 114 or so. I have a very close friend who is her height, weighs 115 and looks almost exactly like Stephanie. My friend like Stephanie is very very thin, healthy and beautiful. Stephanie is naturally this way and I don't see why anyone has the right to criticize. Why don't we all just accept that she is beautiful in her own way and realize that she can be exceptionally thin and healty too.
