Ann Coulter: "America would be better off if everyone were Christian"

Wednesday Ann Coulter appeared on "The Big Idea" with Donny Deutsch. Not only did she say more outlandish things, she really offended him.

For example, he asked her: "If you had your way ... what would this country look like?" Her answer was "It would look like New York City during the Republican National Convention. In fact, that's what I think heaven is going to look like."

Uh, huh. When asked to describe the convention, she said:"People were happy. They're Christian. They're tolerant. They defend America."

Er, Ann, you know Deutsch is Jewish, right? He asked,"It would be better if we were all Christian?" to which she answered "Yes."

Deutsch then asked "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians?" to which she said, "Well, it's a lot easier, it's kind of a fast track."

Deutsch then said something stupid himself in that he said she was too educated to believe that (heh).

Pressing her on the issue, he got this from her: "No, we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say. ... That's what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws."

This really upset Deutsch, and he said (as they cut to commercial), "If Ann Coulter had any brains, she would not say Jews need to be perfected. I'm offended by that personally."

Coming back from commercial, Coulter wanted to explain herself. She said "Our testament is a continuation of your testament. We think Jews go to Heaven, I mean Falwell himself said that. We consider ourselves perfected Christians. For me to say that for you to become a Christian is to become a perfected Christian is not offensive at all."

Well, Ann, it was obvious from Donny's manner that he sure was offended, even if you think what you said is non-offensive. What really offends me is that anyone continues to read your books or listen to you.

Update: Today the National Jewish Democratic Council called for media organizations to boycott Coulter (press release here). Many Christian groups, including Catholics United and Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, were dumbfounded and upset by her remarks.

Do you get the feeling that Ann is being "passed around the party" and hanged by her own petards(Ann- your under-garments)? Most of the the media shows are allowing her to hang herself. What's the term media W _ _ _ e.

Most people don't have the guts to say what they really want to say. This woman is the exception. One of the great things about this country is you can listen to what you want, or NOT. If you don't like what a woman says - then don't listen. However, it might be dangerous if you try that at home!

Anonymous said...

I don't even know if I believe her anymore. I mean, a woman who thinks women shouldn't vote?
Come on.
And Capt. Buzz, while I don't agree with your rather positive characterization of her, I do agree: It's time for people to stop paying attention to Coulter.

Coulter is an embarrassment to mainstream Christians and Americans who embrace tolerance and diversity.

I'm a moderate and vote independently, but I really take issue with people like Coulter and Michael Moore, the extemists of their respective parties.

Coulter is becoming more irrelevant everyday.

Gosh, I'm sorry a Jew was offended by clear cut, settled, biblically founded christian doctrine that everyone must come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ in order to enter heaven. I suppose it would have been better for her to take the usual course, the one most of you obviously take, to play it politically correct and sidestep, thereby sparing someone's feelings at the risk of one's own convictions, and the hearer's eternal salvation. Yeah, that's about right.

Everyone, please stop the "I find that offensive" stuff. If you don't like something, don't listen to it or watch it. I do that every day with CNN. I can't stand it when people act as if they have never said anything "offensive" before. Donny Deutsch is pretty sanctimonious, if you ask me. He had to know what kinds of things Coulter would say before inviting her on. Please, save the "I'm Jewish and I find that offensive" stuff. Christians everywhere hear garbage far worse than that every day about their faith. I love the Jewish people; they are God's chosen, but we all need to quit taking ourselves so seriously. Contrary to what you may believe, you are not that important!

I guess by now I should not be surprised at how obtuse the fanatics who somehow think they are Christians have become. It is obvious that in supporting hate mongers and people whose purpose in life is to divide our society through slander and lies have no real belief in the word of Jesus or they would know they will never see heaven based on their actions.
They really are too ignorant to distinguish between defending your faith and just demeaning anyone who does not share it. Just proves that education does no equal intelligence.

There is more to being Christian than calling yourself one. Those who feel it neccessary to attack everyone else not only lack real understanding and faith in their religion but also in themselves. Yelling the loudest and saying the meanest things does not make you right.

Coulter's comments seem a bit flipant to me. I'm a conservative Christian and based on her statements here I will not be looking to Ann for any kind of theological understanding. Christian salvation is based on grace. Theologically speaking, grace is love un-deserved. Why is that love un-deserved? Because remain sinners until the day we die. This perfection that Ann so flipantly talks about is not realized until we enter the kingdom. It is only through Christ's death on the cross that our redemption is bought - our salvation comes through no means of our own. We should remain humble, contrite and grateful for this until the day we die - and our lives should be marked by the struggle to remain faithful to this fact. [Best analogy I've heard for this is that you should feel like you just step off of curb into the path of a speeding bus, and a hand grabs you from behind and pulls you to safety. Your emotions at that moment is how Christians should feel we they think about their salvation. I'm not sure Ann's attitude is very consistent with this.]

THIS is the exact reason I left the church after 10 years of devout service. People like this, who claim to be christians (capitalism left out intentionally) drive "heathens" and "back-sliders" AWAY instead of bringing them into the church by their hypocracy, ignorance, judgementalism and narrow-mindedness. It disgust me how they preach "love thy neighbor" and spend thousands of dollars on missions, only to drive people away with their Country Club mindset. How can you call yourself a christian when you expect believers to "dress right, speak right, make the right income, live in the right neighborhoods", and then spend more money on the ladies room chandeliers than you give to the poor? I challenge Coulter to leave it all behind her; live on an income less than poverty level, drive a 10 year old car and work 10 hours a day at a job being the servant to one of her Republican right wing christian friends-she'll change her tune soon enough. If right wing "christians" wonder why no one wants to come to church anymore-this is why. (And, I agree, many people are loving, believe in the Creator and follow Spiritual principles without wearing a neon religious affiliation sign on their intellectual sleeve.) I can only hope that someday this woman will come to understand the damage she is doing to her "faith" by running her mouth to get attention focused on herself, instead of drawing attention to the real issues our nation faces.

Oh PU LEASE! Ann Coulter is the antithesis of what a christian is supposed to be. She is an intolerant bigot, and anything but meek and humble of heart. In other words, not like the JEWISH Christ she uses to promote herself. She is a show-off, and she flounts her long legs in mini skirts and tosses her long, bottle blond locks like a lady of the evening. That behavior is not congruent with her message of the all-holy christian. Why is anyone even paying attention to her? Let's all ignore her and maybe she will FINALLY go away.

As has been sung by Heywood Banks: Who gives a rat's lower digestive track what Ann Coulter says - EVER! (She quotes Falwell - REALLY? REALLY? - if I were Deutsch I would not have been able to finish the "interview," I would be laughing too hard.) It is irrelevant that MOST PEOPLE are offended by what Ann Coulter says unless it leads to her losing her money making platform and ends her appearances on television and radio. But that will not happen because we, as a society, thrive on this sort of ludicrous public behavior these days and actually take it seriously enough to rebutt it. Also, I don't feel that "You are too educated to makes such a comment" is unjustified. Her remarks simply prove that she has not been PROPERLY educated and that she is fundamentally ignorant of many ideas and issues. Jerry Falwell indeed...

How about stopping the ad hominem attacks and analyzing her words? If you don't profess to be a Christian, I understand your dismay, but if you call yourself a Christian, do you believe Christ's statement that he is "the way, the truth and the life", or not? Do you accept Christ's commission to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20), or not? If you believe "nobody comes to the Father except through Christ" (John 14:6), who do you think you're going to see in heaven?
Ann's guilty of nothing but a lack of tact.

This country would be a better place if Ann Coulter were a Christian. She isn't. Jesus was a liberal Jew, against all "power and glory" displayed by the fundamentalists of his day, and for the poor and marginalized. He would not recognize the smug religion that claims to represent him today. I don't see in the Bible where being an arrogant, self-important person is a sign of spiritual growth. If she thinks she's an intellectual or a Christian, Ann Coulter is fooling herself, as are most "born again," super church, Republican/support the troops/Fox News lovin' Christians.

Ann is an idiot in my opinion, however so are alot of other people on the right and left who spew there ideas and preach their way is the correct one. This is country built on free speach, we all have a right to speak our minds no matter what others think. Don't just blast someone because you don't like what they say. I have found that even if someone says something that I do not agree with, and it may be a completely moronic, there may just be a little bit of truth or something I can learn from in it. I can listen to Al Sharpton and learn things even if I disagree with most of what he says. And I can listen to O'Riley and find him to be way off the mark on something, yet see his point. Enough said...I guess just keep an open mind...don't choose to be affended like soooooo many people do. Oh and Ann, you need to get some poweder there...or did some lefty just get funny with Photoshop...God knows and is probably laughing either way!!!!

Israel would be off if everyone there were Jewish. Singapore would be better off if everyone were Chinese. Malaysia would be better off if everyone were Malay. Indonesia would be better off if everyone were Muslim. Britain would be (far, far) better off if everyone were British.

Japan is better off because everyone is Japanese (+/- 1%). Germany is better off because everyone is German (+/- 10%).

Unlike the above mentioned countries the U.S. is beyond the point of saving itself from diversity. What you're seeing now, not just with Coulter but Ron Paul and others, is the stirrings of whites playing the ethnic grievance game everyone else plays.

Of course whites have to play the game without being overt about race. So they talk about religion and culture and moral values.

The end result could be whites taking their toys and tax dollars and going home, coming to the conclusion they're white and not American. Then everyone else, including the 'neo-cons', can also stop pretending they're American.

Yes, Jesus was a Jew. As was Judas. And Marx. And Lenin (at least one quarter, but for you 25 cents). And Freud, Greenspan, Boas and a cast of misery causing thousands.

Buddha was most likely Caucasian in all regards, being a high-caste Hindu prince (I don't know, are there low-caste Hindu princes?). But do Asian Buddhists defer to whites as a result? 'Oh, Buddha was white, so surely we can overlook a bit of colonialism and nuclear bombing.' No, for Asians Buddha is as Asian as they are.

Is it really healthy to worship a deity of another race? For whites this means being continuously undercut by '...but Jesus was a...' when daring to criticize Jews. Not that there's anything to criticize.

Someone made a good request last night - "define Christian."
A Christian is one who recognizes that they have failed to meet God's standards as His creation and deserve eternal condemnation because He is just. They also recognize that God has poured out His just wrath for man's rebellion against His only spiritual Son, Jesus Christ, by having Him die on the cross in our place. Furthermore, they believe that God raised Jesus from the dead physically to vindicate His work to redeem mankind and to prove His love. God did all this so that you, only through faith in Jesus Christ, can have a genuine relationship with your Creator. So a Christian is one who has placed their faith only in Christ's work on the cross, and desire a joyful relationship with the Creator so that you may bring glory to God. The result is that you will have eternal life, no longer have a desire for sin, desire to live life to its fullest for God, and seek to make others happy in Jesus.

Julio Roque said...

It is so simple as 1+1=2

There is two ways, the good and the evil. God and Satan. We have to choose between of those.

There is only one way to meet God at the end of the race and that is JESUS CHRIST.

The bunch of religions, they are just that, religions. They were invented by the man to satisfied their own desires.

We cannot serve two masters at the time. Or God or Satan. I believe that God is good.

The good news is that we don'thave to be perfect now, but at the end Jesus Christ will make us perfect to be able to enter to heaven.

Simple, right? choose God and you will avoid a lot of problems in this troubled world that belogns to Satan. Once again, God is good no matter what!

We should have only one Jesus Christ's church as the beginning and eliminate all the denominations , because the segregation is confusing and dividing all people.

This fact is real and is known by all Pastors Jews and the rest even the Pope at the Vatican knows the truth.

Ann Coulter has right to say whatever she feels like saying.

However, our CNN, FOX, MSNBC, CNBC, talk radio continue to promote the bitter ranting instead of calm dialogue because the later would not give them high enough ratings to pay the bills. Our country is heading for disaster if we don't find a better way to discuss our disagreements. We are an embarassment to ourselves and to the world.

I'd like to comment on the statement by the person who asked about Mormonism being a continuation of the New Testament...When Joseph Smith,(founder of Mormonism) said he received a new revelation from an angel, the angel told him all that came before was WRONG and that what he was to start would be NEW. Thus came the book of Mormon, which has absolutely nothing to do with the Old or New Testaments. I agree that Ann lacks tact. I think with her it's all about media attention, and getting people to talk. Interesting that mostly people are talking about religion and not politics. A Christian is a follower of Christ Jesus. Of course, to do that one must know what Jesus believed to follow Him. To do that, one must study the Old and New Testaments and live them out in his or her own life. Jesus said His Kingdom was not of this world. I'm looking forward to that, when Peace will reign.

Ann has a very sarcastic sense of humor. I can understand people not getting it, but if you get it you see that she uses absurdity to prove points. Yes, she comes off as being harsh, but she really isn't that way. If you just stop and really think about what she says you'll see that she is kind of using other people's arguments and turning them around. Such as the time she said we should either convert all Muslims to Christianity or kill the. She took a lot of heat for that, but she didn't mean it. She was simply taking what Muslims want to do to any non-Muslim and turning it around to prove a point. Funny how people got upset with her, but they don't get upset with extremist Muslims who really do kill any non-Muslim.

I respect the right of people to express their philosophy - worldviews. They also have the right to make fools of themselves. Judging from people's expressions through this blog, many are taking full liberty with their rights in both cases.
Why is it hard for some to discuss one's philosophy on life - worldview - in a civilized manner? Why must we resort to name calling, and belittling people in order to express our disagreement with a philosophy? Personality attacks shows one's insecurity with his own position on an issue, inability to argue for their own position, or lacks the deep contemplation of what life is really about.

A hypocrite is an acting term that means to present two faces - saying one thing, but believing another. It is one who practices deceit and lies.
So my question is this - who are you refering to? Who had lied and deceived us?
Though I am independent of Ann Coulter and certainly not a supporter since I don't follow her; I still, as well as most of our soldiers in Iraq (a war I loathe), would defend her right to speak whether it's foolish or not. I don't think you would call soldiers hypocrites if they defend her right to speak her beliefs. So it is very American to defend their rights to respectful speech and disagree with it. You can't assume that someone defending the right to speech is supporting the speaker or the contents. Therefore, my friend, it is not necessarily anti-American or hypocritical to support free speech as guaranteed in our beloved Constitution.

however wrong Ann Coulter is, she may express her opinion. i disagree with her on every point that i have read and heard, she has her opinion. i believe that christians shouldn't take her seriously and find more reasonable people to put their trust in when trying to choose a spokesperson. then we can get back to love thy neighbor instead of the nonsensical statments that Ann makes.

Ann is just giving the basic beliefs of Christianity, that Christians are good, Christianity is best and open to all, and that Jesus is the only way to heaven.

I am surprised at the level of ignorance about such fundamental ideas.

Walt from Sarasota said...

I think Ann images an America of the 50's - innocent, not very corrupt, family-centered, faith-based. Well, it was a Midwestern Christian kind of culture. Let's face it, it has never been better so let's just look at her point and not her careless way of putting her point. Of course it would be better than now!

Julio said...

These are not fundamental ideas so no one is going to adhere to them. Christians do not act this way, they supposed to approach everything as Christ would. Besides, in what category do you think Christians are? We are the murderers, the thieves, the antagonists, Mongrels, and unwanted . . . Christ said the Bible or the "word" wasn't for those whom consider themselves righteous. Personally, I believe nothing this women says, you can't let yourselves be victims to her rantings, it's what she wants.
Capt. Buzz: It is these things we have to make ourselves aware of, not just simply ignore them. You say don't listen, then how is one to judge whether her words have merit? Is she speaking truths or expelling to the world her own understandings? She boasts of being a "Perfected Christian" If she is a Perfected Christian, then I'm the Lord God himself.
I have tolerance but I fall, I have patience but I fall, I have love but I wake up hating this world. The Bible says we are human thus we fall. . .Yeah, we shouldn't pass judgment on Ms. Colter but there is a line between Judgment and wise criticism.

"THIS is the exact reason I left the church after 10 years of devout service. (And, I agree, many people are loving, believe in the Creator and follow Spiritual principles without wearing a neon religious affiliation sign on their intellectual sleeve.) I can only hope that someday this woman will come to understand the damage she is doing to her "faith" by running her mouth to get attention focused on herself, instead of drawing attention to the real issues our nation faces."

I guess religion really is the opiate of the masses. Who exactly are "the Christians?" Last I heard the many many factions couldn't agree on much of anything, primarily because some yokels believe in the "literal word" of an ancient text that has been cross translated through about six languages and left in the hands of monkeys. If you have to force your faith on others then you probably don't really have any. This kind of crap is not news, people. It's probably a clever ruse to steer you away from a much more salient issue that might be affecting our survival. The press never runs out of idiots. I think they're afraid to report on something they might actually have to research.

Though I can't stand Coulter - re. her racist statements about Arabs (I'm an Arab(Palestinian)-American who's Orthdox Christian---yeah, unbeknownst to Coulter and other ignorant Americans, Christian Arabs existed when her European ancestors were worshipping the sun and moon and making human sacrifices; isn't it interesting that when she states what the new testament essentially says about Jews, suddenly there is a big to-do.

Coulter offended the 'wrong' people now. And seeing what the Jewish Lobby has done to others - politicians and writers alike and that Abraham Foxman has stated, that the new testament is "anti-semitic", well...watch out Ann.

Jesus, Himself called Jews "the synagogue of Satan" because of their sinful ways and their rejection of Him.

She'll be in debt to Jews, forever now.

I am clearly aware that Ann Coulter is not perfect (or she would be in heaven) but she is not afraid to speak the truth and is more accurate than any radical liberal person I have heard. Neither is she a Christian theologian but I believe she is a Christian and expresses correctly much of what THE AUTHORITY on Christianity clearly states. The only authority on Christianity is Jesus Christ about whom both the old and new Testaments speak. Of course, since we can only fully know about what Jesus Christ said through the old and new Testaments, the final authority is the whole Bible. No human being ultimately has a worldview or an epistemology that can deal with life's many questions involving metaphysics, morals, and epistemology, which consistently "hangs together" intellectually apart from the holy Bible.
Ms. Coulter is sometimes in error,as is everyone, but more accurate than any liberal intellectual I've known (which are MANY). She should continue to write her usually accurate best sellers with good bibliographies, as well as continue to speak that which she believes to be true on the media. No one has to listen, but because there is so much uproar about what she often says I believe indicates there are many who don't like her that knows she's more right than wrong. Free speech which we are fortunate still to have in America is a great thing. Let's keep it for as long as we can and encourage it. We could use many more like Ann Coulter.
I'm basically for Ann Coulter,

"Christian" is not about reading a book, it is about your actions and how you treat people.

Last month they had a Wiccan celebration and it was attended by many people of faith who learned some truths that dispelled many of the myths spread by ignorant people with no knowledge but a lot of hate and fear based on the word of others.
It is truly a glorius church based on love and respect for others by people who are strong in their faith in God instead of the rhetoric of arrogant people who love only themselves.

I normally don't do this but for some reason I am compelled to do so. I have never read or listened to Ann Coulter, but by reading the comments I feel that she is trying to do and say something positive. There has been alot verbal bashing to bloggers and to Ms Coulter. If everyone truly believed in God/Jesus they would know that this is wrong. However, we are human, we make mistakes. You do need the entire bible to understand the Christian. Remember it was written "narrow is the gate", and in Acts 2 "They were first called Christians". The Old Testament is the schoolmaster for the New, then it was "nailed to the cross" making it invalid and thus validating the New Testament. I do not intend to bash Jews, so as Aguilla and Priscilla took Apollos aside and instructed him in a more perfect way, Jewish people cannot keep the laws of the Old Testament. 1. It no longer exists 2.Even in O.T. times NO ONE could keep the law perfect 3. It did not offer forgiveness of sin, it just rolled them forward 4. if you are to live according to the Law, then you must also keep performing sacrafices, and all the feasts and not work on the sabath, etc.

If you are going to believe in God then you have to believe in Christ. Hear the word of God, Believe the Word of God, Repent of your sins, Confess Jesus is the Son of the Living God, be Baptized FOR the remission of sin, and Live in the Word of God. " All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for Doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." Those that truly want to see heaven will accept.

What Ann said is exactly what is preached in the same mega churches who will defend Israel's right to exist to their last breaths.

My Jewish friends are upset by the belief of evangelical Christians that Jews should be "perfected" or "saved".

But those evangelicals actually believe they are saving people from eternal hellfire. From their own point of view, they are doing a loving thing by preaching to the Jews.

Personally, I am skeptical that G-d calls them to do it. But they don't mean to be offensive, and Ann was right on saying so.

Jesus was an offense to those who opposed Him. Sometimes it is okay to offend. Jews will only go to Heaven if they accept the gospel of the New Testament. This article calls Catholics Christian. Catholics are not Christians, as they have a different gospel than what is written in the Bible.

There is only one God and one faith. Man has corrupted and twisted the word to suit himself and his conscience. True Christianity (capitalized to show respect) goes by no other name(Baptist, Presbytarian,Catholic,Calvanist,etc.). All other religions were founded by man and not God. All other religions have a "headquarters" somewhere on this earth. God's Church(again capitalized for respect) has its headquarters in heaven. His earthly(local)churches are autonymous and part of the Greater Universal Church(Heaven). These strife for Biblical Authority for all that they do and don't do. The seek Book, Chapter and Verse for authority. Ann I think has heart in the right place, just has trouble with judgement from time to time- but then don't we all?

Something like 85% of people in this country practice Christianity. Who's oppressing you, the other 15% ? If there is any ill-will towards Christians it's beacuse of people like Ann Coulter who make hateful statements and inadvertedly become the voice of Christianity because they have access to the media. I believe in Jesus, not Ann or Jerry Fallwell,or the Bakers, the Grahams. Christ does not need for someone to speak for HIM, BUT he did COMMAND us to "go out into the world and preach the gospel, and those that believe and are baptized shall be saved, and those that do not shall be condemned." There will always be believers and there will always be more non-believers.But come judgement day EVERYONE shall believe. And out of that 85% "Christians", less than 1/2 attend services on a regular basis, more than half probably only attend service 2wc a year;Easter and Christmas. We are commanded to meet on the beginning of the week,(Sunday) and that comes every week. Grounded Christians are not worried about "their" faith in the way you imply, but the lack of faith of others.

I don't believe that the bible ever stated that Joseph was unemployed, but it does say "This is MY Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." and " Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." And since Jesus speaks for God then what He say is TRUE. "Serve the Lord with fear. And rejoice with trembling. Blessed are those who put their trust in Him." "God shall judge the righteous and the wicked, For there is a time there for every purpose and for every work."

As we look back at the life of Jesus and study his life, it is interesting the many ways he broke societies mold of his day, in both life and death. Here is a list of a few:
1)He was more concerned with the poor and oppressed than with making allegiances with the rich
2)He spoke out more about wealth than any other thing and it was almost always in chastisement of those that did not share
3)He lived with, consorted and brought hope, NOT CONDEMNATION, to the sick, thieves and whores when the "respectable" religious leaders chastised him
4)He was as concerned, if not more so, with the rights of foreigners and the underclass as with those of his own race.
5)He spoke out against the self-righteous "religious" leaders whom were trying to make everyone obey the law by "their" understanding yet did not live righteously themselves
6)He spoke out against those same religous leaders when they where twisting the law for their own economic benefit(Matt:15 and the Moneychangers)
7)He was not afraid to speak out against the national and local officials and politicians when they were self serving
8)Pacifist by nature AND teaching and taught that evil is overcome better by good than with force OR even threat of force
9)He taught that we were all foreigners to the earth;that we give alliagence to God FIRST and rejected the idea of earthly "patriotism" to settle conflicts.
10)He lived simply with "no place to lay his head" and it could be agued that through the Holy spirit, he approved AND enforced a system of simple communal living and sharing that many today would call socialism(Acts 4 & 5)
While I have yet to find any political or social phylosophy that fully integrats all that Jesus believed and taught, I am struck by the fact that most of the traits just listed, falls largely into one "label", if you will. When I consider that Jesus was wrongly sentenced in a "capital punishment" case brought on by corrupt influences, hung on a cross, pierced in the side by a spear......I think to myself, "I guess Jesus was the first,..literal....,BLEEDING HEART LIBERAL!!!!!!"
Anne stands for everything opposite of this. P.S. For those that dont like hearing this "TRUTH", dont just reply that "your wrong"....PROVE IT with examples of scripture..as far as Jesus example goes, NT scripture please

Too many "evangelicals" talk incesently about grace and believing, but if you talk about the sermon on the mount, the Beatitudes and other teachings of Jesus...wwweeellll...Jesus didn't mean for us to "follow"...NOW..that supposedly is for some future kingdom. The only analogy I can think of to point out what this does to the Gospel is "Neutered". Jesus meant what he said and he was talking to us..TODAY!!!! Bill Maher says this kind of stuff alllll the time and nobody goes nuts over him. Ann's great, she's funny and she's a Christian, which Paul said means contenting for the faith. Read your whole bible please. Try Matthew 10:34-35 when Jesus said "I have not come to bring peace but to bring a sword." "To turn father against son..." Or in Matthew 10:14-15 when he pronounces damnation like Soddom and Gomorrah for those who don't listen to his messengers. He wasn't all peace all the time. Ask a Pharisee or Hypocrite. He taught that there is justice, too.

And Joseph Smith didn't throw away all previous scripture. That's ridiculous. He spent his whole life quoting the Bible. He threw out the philosophically based religions that preceded the restoration he helped bring.

And if you think Paul wasn't like Ann in his style on occasion, you need to read him again. He was sarcastic and direct quite often and pugnacious quite frequently.

There is a time to everything under heaven, including a time to contend for what's right. Go Ann.

This is EXACTLY the type of taking out of context that "christians" like droll use all the time and I believe Jesus weeps whenever he hears(reads) it. Jesus talking about bringing a sword is TOTALLY allagorious and in NO way implies Jesus is supporting violence. Even "If" Jesus were not or did not teach peace(as far as between people) "all the time"..why do you ignore the 99% he teaches peace for the one or two times he is taken out of context. Angry and violent "christians" like droll and Anne C. are angry because they do not know or understand Christs teachings. For someone to say as someone said that Anne is a Christian because "she" says so, must also agree Hitler and many other despots are or were "Christian" too. I didn't say anything about war - just contending for what is right and against what is wrong. Jesus was very clear about that. What about what Paul said about contending for the faith. I'm afraid it is all too common for leftist Christians to quote blessed are the peacemakers and yet forget that their is justice as well as mercy. You can't just skip over relevant scriptures because you don't know how to handle them. Jesus knew that the truth would create contention because people who don't want to hear it are too willing to fight it. Ann is doing what she things is right, and honestly, the left does not have to play by these touchy-feely rules that the left demands of her. When I hear the left just once complain about their own left-wing attack dogs, then I'll know they are trying to be fair and honest - and yes, Christian.

Her comment on the Jewish people being perfected was correct in the sense that Jews don't believe that the Messiah has already come and gone. The Jews are still waiting for Him to get here. Jesus was here and Jews don't believe in being born again with the Holy Spirit because they're still waiting for the Messiah. I'm a born again Chistian, and obviously Ann Coulter is one too. "I'm afraid it is all too common for leftist Christians to quote blessed are the peacemakers and yet forget that their is justice as well as mercy. You can't just skip over relevant scriptures because you don't know how to handle them."

Jesus teachings on non-resistance goes WAY beyond the "blessed are the peacemakers". Its not just the Beatitudes, its the sermon on the mount, Many ,many other teaching and saying of Jesus and Paul talks MULTIPLE times about non-resistance. At one point he even says if you are persecuted wrongly be happy because your reward is in heaven(nothing about personal justice). Paul and Steven were both stoned yet neither defended themselves nor did Paul actively look for "justice" or retribution. Justice was always to be seeked non-violently and by returning good for evil!!! I believe it is YOU that are jumping over "relevant scripture" because YOU dont know how to handle a Jesus that taught non-resistance. Jesus was for justice but as Paul clearly stated, the early Christians believed God when he said "Vengence is MINE". True they warned that the state was there to maintain general peace and "wielded the sword". BUT heres the big difference...They understood that the rulers of the Kingdom of the World were not Nor did they ever expect them to be or represent "Christians". Basically they were a neccessary evil for a fallen world and those NOT of the faith. I realize this seperation between Kingdom of Earth and Kingdom of God was lost with the ante-nicene church(pre 325 a.d.) but the thousands of writing of said christians CLEARLY explain and uphold this idea. The Apostolic constitution (pre 325 a.d.)that the main body of orthodox christians followed, even called for expulsion from the church of those joining the army after accepting Christ. It is also clear that this was NOT because of pagan rituals that some leaders try to argue because they dont like hearing this peace position, but, because it went against Jesus MANY teachings on non-resistence. Constantine, after 325 screwed everything up and caused Christianity to take a 180 degree turn from what had be "orthodoxy" previous to this unholy merger of "Church and State". I realize this understand of the earliest church is unfamiliar to most "Christians" but it is clear in their writings and is surpressed by most denominations leaders because its hard to admit that they have had skip over relevant scriptures because they don't know how to handle them." I suggest you get David Bercots, "Will the real heretics please standup" It may be hard to swallow but it is accurate. If you have some evidence that Jesus specifically taught justice through violent means..please list scripture I'de love to know where they exist. If you want I can list at least 15 scriptures to the opposite(taken with the the RIGHT context of course.
P.S. Christ telling discip to get swords(which two were enough) at the last supper were CLEARLY and ONLY so prophecy("he will be amoung the transgressors") was fulfilled(look beyond Mattew). Remember that he said later "those live by sword shall die by sword"--oh wait yet ANOTHER example of Christ teaching non-resistence!!!

Unfortunately Ann forgot that the Constitution of the United States supports freedom of religion-any religion. Anyone who dreams of something like a theocracy doesn't have my vote in this country. Maybe she's as brainwashed as the church that she joined. And, as far as the Bible-based church that she touts, I am so glad that I ran from it as a young person, joining it under pressure from someone else rather than my own wishes. Here's the thing: you have to actually believe that the Christian doctrine is valid to go with her point of view. Personally I think the idea of being saved is a real hook in the organization, and I'm not motivated by the fear of hell. I think the church she has joined is a game, nothing more. I spent too long inside it to learn that the great majority of the people who attend, not all, really do not believe in the doctrine, nor do they practice it. And it is very obvious to all outside. If everyone were required to believe the same way, we'd be living in a communist or fascist country. It's not what she believes that is so shocking and frightening; it is the implication that all should believe the same. Such ideas lend themselves to totaliarism (sp?) and an iron-fist government. Now that's one thing from which I'd hope God would save us all.

I like the fact that reference is made to the preNicene beliefs. I'm right there with you agreeing that the church was corrupted at Nicea. However, that corruption didn't start there. It was being corrupted leading up to that since the moment the apostles were killed. Why else was Paul correcting the saints in virtually every epistle.

But, please, understand this. You cannot conflate Ann Coulter being contentious with war and killing. Two Christian, anti-Ann bloggers have jumped to this non sequitor. Arguing and letting your opponent have it with rhetoric is not the same as killing them. All of the teachers of the truth in the Bible from the top down let their opponents have it in the strongest terms. Jesus was very rough on the Pharisees. He called them a generation of vipers. By repeatedly conflating arguing with killing or rhetoric with war you are just creating a straw man argument that is meaningless and unengaging. Yes, Ann is not ready to become a minister in the church. She's a tough and reactionary political pundit. Don't hold her to an inappropriate standard. Also, don't expect her to reject the fact that every Christian's duty and desire should be to bring all to the same faith. So her perfect world would be all Christian. There's no theological problem with that. She's just a little edgy in saying it.

And please don’t go all haywire about the church and state issue being some dire downfall of man. The problem with the church of the dark ages and every other corrupt age was that corrupt men used religion for corrupt political purposes. It didn’t have anything to do with the faith itself or with its relationship to the state. That’s like blaming all running backs for O.J. Simpson or all blondes for Britney Spears. Religion gets this ridiculous rap all the time. “Since all Christians aren’t perfect, then Christianity isn’t valid and I’m glad I left.” This just seems to be weak minded and a cop out.

A rant in response to Ms. Coulter's ramblings:

On Ignorance:

Ms. Colter's rantings once again prove that a formal education and advanced degree do not mitigate ignorance, bigotry and prejudice taught to some of us since birth. Heck it adds fuel to the fire!

On the concept of Christianity:

There are a lot of good things in the world, in my opinion more than bad things. But.... we are focusing on the Christian point of view that Ms. Coulter holds out to be the only acceptable method of morality, behavior, etc.
So....., it never ceases to amaze me, and it continues to scare me, how mainstream Christians, like Coulter, consider the modern version of the New Testament literal gospel handed directly down to man from Jesus. A little education would clue these folks in that Jesus' gospels are conceptual, and I am not even sure that’s accurate. Over centuries, biblical writings were deliberately misinterpreted, rewritten for political, social, sexual, economic gains, and whole books and passages were excluded, etc. What is, "The Bible", today was determined by men to achieve their own gains, centuries ago. If Ann wants us all to act Christian, let’s look at some of the results of this behavior; more people have died because of the bible than for any other reason in history. Let me be clear here, the majority of deaths throughout history did not result from defending freedom, or from Communism, or Judaism, or Buddhism, or Hinduism, or Moslem beliefs....but Christianity alone! The so called charitable acts of Christians during the Black Plague, Westernization of Africa, all wars combined, makes an educated person fear the mainstream Christian. You know the ones that burned women at the stake or drowned them as witches. It is always ironic to me when someone praises God when something good happens to them, and blames anyone but God when something bad happens. I don't mean the skipping the insignificant little stuff, right to loosing a child to war, a child burned to death due to carelessness, a serial killers legacy of death and destruction, etc. If Ann were to actually think about it, instead of regurgitating the biblical rhetoric she grew up with, she might realize that its absurd to think that all the wicked horror perpetrated on the world is allowed for by a kind and loving god (which is in stark contrast to the God of the old testament). A God that could crush evil if his power and knowledge was as significant as the bible tells us he has at his disposal. If I treated my children the way God treats his children, I would be likened to Adolph Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Genghis Kahn and his family, etc!

Oh yeah, there are some good things recognized as delivered from God; such as, America (this is a great one, with or without God), donations to charities, Mother Teresa (another great one), the 10 commandments (we should all live our lives with these in mind every day), etc.

Personalities in general:

With respect to all commentators and talk personalities, they know perfectly well that controversial and extreme positions and comments create attention. And as they say in Hollywood, any attention is good attention!

Ms C's comments highlight an interesting point. Many Christians interpret the Bible as requiring belief in Jesus as the sacrificial deity in order to go to heaven, as opposed to earning this privilege with good deeds. This means that unless one is "born again" (or as Ms C refers to it, "perfected" by accepting Jesus as their divine Savior), they will go to hell, regardless of how moral a life they might lead.

This obviously can prove a sore point with all "non believers" including people who basically try to live by a code similar to what Jesus taught, but have no settled opinion as to Jesus' divinity. This large group not only includes Jews, every other religion, and atheists it also includes persons who think of themselves as Christians because they follow Christian guides for conduct.

I can think of some very good arguments in opposition to Ms C's position, but in the end, neither I nor any of the esteemed commenters who have expressed their opinions on this blog can "know" or prove the truth or falsity of Ms C's beliefs. That being the case, why vilify her for stating them. Christians such as Coulter are not speaking hatefully on this point, they are merely telling us what they believe the Bible warns...

If America was really lucky Ann Coulter would fall of the face of the earth. According to her idea of heaven there isn't a place for most of the world. Hopefully she won't be there when I get there!! And I assure you she does not represent anything I hold dear about America or about going to heaven. It is biggoted people like her that give Americans a bad name around the world. I sincerely wish people would not buy her books or support her ideas.
sign me a Texas angel and proud of it. Fortunately she doesn't live in Texas!! She would probably (Hopefully) get shot!!

Honestly? I think she just says whatever she thinks is going to get her the most attention. It's not even something she necessarily believes, she just wants people to look at her and talk about her. She probably deliberately brought up this issue knowing that she was talking to a Jewish man. Maybe if talk show hosts and other people stop inviting Ann Coulter onto their shows, she'll eventually go away. We can hope.

Of course America would be better place if we were all Christians. But that's not going to happen. That's why we have to wait for a place called Heaven. The Bible tells us most of the world is not going to be in Heaven; the road is broad that leads to destruction as opposed to the narrow road to salvation. People who wish believers would fall off the face of the earth or get shot don't have the love of God in them, and are traveling the broad way to destruction. Repentance is still possible - study the Bible. I suggest beginning with the book of John, but don't neglect the entire Old and New Testament.

I find it really interesting that people are actually referencing the Bible as a source of FACTS. Just because it's the most known book in the world, that doesn't mean anything in it is necessarily true. After all, Harry Potter is a pretty popular series, and you don't see people revering and praising him...or at least not in the sense that people praise and revere God. King James wrote the bible, while God did not. According to christian history, King James wasn't even an apostle or a prophet. Logically and consistently, he shouldn't have any credibility with christians.

America would be much worse off if everyone were Christians, because the country would be boring as hell and full of boring people. It's ridiculous to say that the world would be a better place if we had more Ann Coulters.

I agree with some of the other comments. People like this so-called political scientist and Rush Limbaugh are praying that Hillary gets elected. That would be worth millions more dollars per year to them because the 25% of the country that is unthinkingly right wing will pony up cash to buy their books, etc. They (along with some liberals, to be sure) don't give a damn about the country, all they care about is their own income and power.

I give Ann credit for speaking the truth, although maybe not in the most diplomatic way. The word "perfected" has a different definition and connotation Biblically speaking. It means that a person will be one day fit for heaven by the perfection of Christ, not that a person is perfect and never does anything wrong. This clarification might have helped but I doubt it. Deutsch was determined to be offended and couldn't wait to be such. Look at the press it's gotten him. And to the one anonymous, King James didn't write the Bible.

I am a good christian, a conservative tilted independent, who could care less if the jews were offended by this morons comments. That is the beauty of this country, you have the freedom to speak your mind, even if it is mindless dribble. If the Jews had their way, you would have your freedom of speech...as long as you didn't say anything offensive towards the jews. I am all for freedom of speach, but if you are as unabashedly ignorant as this woman, it would probably be smarter just to keep your mouth shut.

Looks like all those who tout so-called "tolerance" have become completely intolerant of one woman who expressed her opinion. Hypocrites always expose themselves, sooner or later, evidence of the very point Ann was making. Reading many of these posts, it's all too clear just how much hate lies beneath their shallow veneer.

America would be better off if Ann Coulter were a Christian. Christianity is, according to 1 John, as much a matter of Love as it is a set of beliefs. And Ann consistently fails the love test in her rantings - although her remarks are well-calculated to maker her lots of money.

Love should be emphasized. I don't know why more Jews don't say that we should become Jewish. The basic understanding of a religion is that it is the "true" way of life. Islam, however,is not a religion. The Sixth Pillar confirms it is a cult. What most people don't realize is that a person can get to heaven without bein a Christian through baptism of desire. Yes, there's hope ... and love.. Montrosemark

How old is this woman? How many years until she reaches her actuarial life expectancy? I mean THEN can we NOT have to hear from her? And when will the media have had enough of her?
I would defend any American's right to live and believe as he chooses, but just shut up and enjoy your self. What is this thing with wanting to drag everyone over to your side of the street?
If she wants to be Christian, stay-at-home mom, great, but does that mean I can't be a lesbian construction worker and worship Odin? All this fundamental religiosity is just a overly sweet polite way of saying, "Shut the f**k up!"
No thanks...

"The business of America is Business." I understand she has fought breast cancer on a non-partisian basis. Albeit before such trama, I understand her stated political/radicl public positions remained constant. If she believes them, that's her right...like it or not. If she is afforded a media platform to "air" such beliefs, she also has such a right and one could look to those enablers in the print and broadcast media for accountability. All said, is she so smart (or are we so stupid) that she may be playing us all and the "Business of America" for the fool? I suspect she may be one of few who knows the real truth and and the answer to that. Regardless, during this ceremonial month of "survival" one thing is for sure, she may be laughing at us all, all the way to the bank.

Ann Coulter has shown biblical ignorance.Jews are Jews, not Christians. Christians are followers of Jesus Christ. The Jews have rejected Jesus Christ as Messiah. However, there are Jews who have openly received Jesus Christ as their Savior, but are erroneously called Messianic Jews, when in fact the more correct term would be Nazarene Jew. As a Gentile and Christian I understand how any Jewish person would be offended by the flippant remarks made by Ann Coulter during the interview.

OK, this story is getting old.... can we get some fresh news up here. How about some real news, not this tabloid shit!!

I am surprised at how strong a response this is getting. If someone finds something they really feel is eternally important, they are going to want others to find it also. If they believed other religions were right, they would agree with them, but they don't, so they don't agree with them.

This is the fallacy of multiculturalism. It says no one has what is best, which isn't even logically possible. Those who feel they do have what is best want to tell others about it PERHAPS BECAUSE THEY CARE ABOUT THEM. That is not hate-mongering. It is presenting your belief in the open marketplace of ideas. If being a Christian is the way, we should want to hear about it, just as if being a Buddhist or an atheist were. I don't see why a Jew would feel offended if someone felt they had a better way, and wanted him to experience it.

I find Ann Coulter a refreshing change to all the guarded comments everyone in public feels they must make.
