Bush: "I can barely speak English"

No, I'm not making this up; he said it. I'm not surprised by this statement, actually, since he has a great deal of difficulty with the English language ("nucular" always comes to mind). :-) I will admit that I've make fun of this so often that I have to struggle to say "nuclear" myself.

Of course, this is just another Bushism, and I should give context. This weekend Bush is hosting French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Today, they had what the White House called “a casual family lunch,” which I'm pretty sure did not include either French or Freedom Fries. Later, both George W. and George H.W. Bush went for a spin with Sarkozy on the elder Mr. Bush’s cigarette boat.

Naturally this is just another day in Bush's current vacation. And now, to be fair, the context. When asked by a journalist if he could say something in French, Bush said “No I can’t, I can barely speak English.” :-) Even with the context, I find it hilarious.

French fries or freedom fries, if you will, which is it now? Since they have kissed and made up, there shall be no snafu in this serious matter.

Lyndon Johnson also used to say "nucular".

I could not have voted for Bob Dole, because he repeatedly said that he wanted to be "PresneyitedStates".

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. "I will admit that I've make fun of this so often that I have to struggle to say "nuclear" myself." Should read: "I will admit that I've made (with a 'd' not a 'k') fun of this so often that I have to struggle to say "nuclear" myself." I guess Bush isn't the only one struggling.

Yes, bill the grammarian, check your own English before criticizing President Bush. Uh, "our beloved beloved prez has finally TOOK sole responsibility for his actions"? My third graders could spot the error in that phrase in no time flat. Idiot.

I have to admit it myself. "Nuclear" can be a pretty tough word to pronounce, but only when I think about it too much. When I just try and spell it I have difficulty, yet somehow it always comes out write. See, "nuclear, nuclear, nuclear..." You get the point. I am an idiot. The president, on the other hand, is an even bigger idiot, for he can not even say the word. So why is it that he is still the f****** president. Impeach that stupid mother******!

'Now' is also pronouced 'neh..ow' instead of 'nn..ow'. Its Americanish. In Singapore its Singlish.

This just in! The White House Press Corps was told by Tony Snow today that President Bush was born a third time -- yesterday at 2PM ET. The birth was attended by the President of France.

Asked by reporters how he could tell the President was born yet again, the Press Secretary said: "No question about it. Mr. Bush uttered his first truthful words this morning when he said 'I can barely speak English.'" Mr. Snow chocked up at this point. "The old George Bush is no more," he added wistfully. "From now on we only traffic in truth."
